I just HAD to share this puppet with you. It was a custom order from a little while ago that turned out so great. He is a rather insane cereal box monster complete with moveable fingers, crazy eyes, and super sharp teeth! This was such a fun project. Totally different from my usual style, but I enjoyed the challenge. Krunchy is currently working on his debut film. I'll let you know when production is complete. I'm excited to see how it turns out!

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been able to get anything up on the blog, so I have a bit of news to catch up on. First of all, we are officially signed up for a Christmas boutique! We had such a blast at our summer shows that we just couldn't pass up this opportunity. If you're in town on December 14th or 15th, you should stop by! We'd love to see you! Plus, we'll have some goodies in our booth that we don't sell online :) Speaking of goodies not available online (yet), I've been playing with more caterpillars! Here are a few of my favorites: I've also been playing with t-shirt designs. I looked into getting a few shirts professionally screen printed, but the non-bulk cost is just not an option for me. So, I decided to try to find a good DIY method. My sister showed me this screen printing method using Mod Podge and embroidery hoops and it totally works! I created a few different screens so I could try a couple of different t-shirt designs and here are the results: I love them! They're far from perfect, but that makes me love them even more! And now that I have the screens, I can create as many shirts in as many colors as I like :) I still haven't decided if I will make them available in my shop yet. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I'm not so sure I want people looking too closely at these. My sister and I will be wearing them as our "uniform" while we're running our booth at the Christmas boutique, so maybe if people show interest in them there I will put them online. In the meantime, Lastly, I just want to share a couple of custom orders I sent out over the last week or so. They turned into such fun characters! Well, I guess that's about it for now. The next few weeks of boutique prep will be pretty busy, but I'll try to keep posting and coming up with more puppety goodness to share. Oh, and just as a heads up, we'll be having a Thanksgiving sale starting next week and running through Thanksgiving, so keep an eye out for the coupon code.
Have a great week everyone! And for my fellow Americans, make sure you get out and vote today! -Sarah I have to share my latest creation with you all. I'm so excited with how she turned out! I know I say this a lot, but she is definitely one of my favorite creations :) I actually started her over a year ago when I had this brilliant idea to create a whole family of rod puppets. I only got as far as creating this guy... and the witch's head and hands. Long story short, I sold the old man puppet before I had the witch complete, so she took a back seat. Poor thing. It all worked out in the end, though. I think she turned out great! I really should make more of these puppets. They are so much fun to see come to life and really challenge my creativity. Too bad they take me so long. At this rate, we won't see another until next Halloween! By the way, if you're interested in purchasing this cute witch, she's available here.
Hope you're having a splendid day! -Sarah Here is a set of custom order fleece monster hats that went out in the mail today! The woman who ordered them was looking for something that her biracial kids could wear that wouldn't catch on their hair and mess it up everytime. So instead of lining it with fleece, I lined it with a good quality lining material that was super sleek and nice. I had to add in some extra ease in the lining since the it doesn't stretch like the fleece, but other than that it was super simple and turned out really great! My kids got a kick out of trying them on for size and have asked to have theirs pulled out of the closet now that it is getting colder. October does seem like the perfect month to have little monsters appear at my house again! If you are interested in ordering one it is easier than ever with our new order form found here on the website!
~Susan Finished! I'm sooooo glad I added the little grad caps. They add so much to the characters. I hope the buyer has lots of fun with these guys, because I sure did! I love this picture. Just imagine what this guy is thinking right now. Hilarious! Along with these adorable bookworms, I have also completed a few other new friends... Aren't they fun characters? I'm so excited for how they turned out. I'll be listing them soon so they can get started on their puppet adventures. Oh the possibilities!
-Sarah Here's a little peek at a recent custom order : They gave me a concept image and a few specs, and here he is! (I actually created three of these guys to perform at three different venues in the same puppet program) Very simple, but kinda cute. Sometimes simple is best. I think I may end up making some little grad caps for these guys just to reinforce the whole bookworm image.
It was fun to work with fleece again. I've been dealing with fur for a while now and was really starting to get sick of random bits of fur floating through the air and sticking to my clothes, the couch, and the dogs. The good news is that all of the fur filled escapades have led to some really great puppets. Don't believe me? Just take a gander at the Furry Muppet Puppets page :) I've also got a new one listed on Etsy. I know it's probably confusing to list my puppets in two different places, but I value my Etsy customers too much to only make these puppets available on one relatively undiscovered and obscure website. This is a very young website still, so I expect that it will take a while longer to really be noticed. Speaking of which, please feel free to share this website with your friends, bookmark it, or follow the RSS feed; not just for the sake of growing this website, but I also want you to know about all the great sales and coupons we'll have in the next few months to help you out with your gift giving (I know, I'm shameless). It may be a bit early in the season, but lots of people already have Christmas on the brain. (Puppets make excellent gifts, by the way. Just sayin.) We will be listing lots of new items both in our shop here and on Etsy in the next little while, so I hope you stick around. Anyway, to finish up my rambling post I just wanted to share some things that are in the works that I am very excited about:
Well, that's it for now. Happy Wednesday! -Sarah I am the proud new owner of my very own DSLR camera! It's about time, let me tell you. I've been playing with it all weekend and I am so excited! Finally I can spend more time on the actual puppets than the photo editing! Anyway, today I had a little photo shoot with my new camera and a couple of new friends. Enjoy! (It's more fun if you click through the caterpillar pics really fast)
By the way, Froggymodo is now available for purchase! Just click on the Shop button from the menu above. And here's a little preview of another fun fellow soon to be listed. I'm very excited for him. He's quite delightful and has already expressed his wishes to me to always be cast as a "friendly monster". He's not so good at being mean.
-Sarah I was hanging out with my sister today, making plans for future puppets--oh my gosh, the fur we found!!!--and she shared this video with me. I dare you not to laugh or sing along. Oh my, this makes me happy. In other news, I have been creating some more characters to add to our puppet family. These three are almost ready to go. They just need eyes and arms. What do you think? I'm definitely getting an Elmo vibe from the one on the right. Well, back to the sewing machine. Have a wonderful Monday!
-Sarah Introducing Froggymodo! This funny little froggy is the result of a project I started months ago and had given up on. I found him a few days ago in several unassembled, squished pieces at the bottom of a box. I don't know why, but I decided that now would be a great time to finish him up. He's not quite what I envisioned when I started all those months ago, but I think he turned out kinda cute. A little funny, maybe, but any frog can be a prince in my opinion. Ooh, maybe I should make him a crown! Anyway, he is cute. He is done. He will be available in my Etsy shop shortly.
What do you think of him? Would you kiss this frog? -Sarah PS. See those piles of fur behind him? I have been cutting out fabric for days getting ready to make some more furry muppet monsters! I'm excited to be able to share a few photos of my puppet creating process with you. Please forgive the poor lighting in the first two pics. It was late and there's only so much one small lamp can do. Anyway, you saw the pile of materials in my last post and here is what that pile turned into: Cutting, sewing, and mouth installation complete. And only one small hot glue burn, folks! (this is a big deal) Bald! But apparently extremely happy. Can you believe the personality something as simple as googly eyes can give to these guys? And done! Don't they look like fun? I'm thrilled with how they turned out and I can't wait for them to get to their new home. There are big things in store for these guys, including tutus, tiaras, and tiny hats. If I have permission from my buyer, I'll post some pics of them in all their glory later on. -Sarah
